The principal aim of the Weavers’ Company is to uphold and enhance its traditions, its fellowship and its assets, to benefit the weaving and textile industry, meet the objectives of the Company’s chosen charities, and recruit its future generations.
In 2007 it was agreed that a small number of colleges offering woven textile-related degree courses should be identified to receive ongoing funding support from the Company for a period of up to five years. Membership of this Core Group is regularly reviewed and currently comprises Falmouth University, Heriot-Watt University, Huddersfield University, Glasgow School of Art, Nottingham Trent University and Manchester Metropolitan University.
The Company provides support to this Core Group through the Award of Scholarships to Students nominated by their Tutors. We also help weaving departments to upgrade or renew existing equipment, purchase additional equipment, and enable their students to gain hands-on experience of modern technology, for example by visiting mills and factories.
