No Going Back supports people with convictions to move towards sustainable employment, combining training and employability support with mentoring and practical help to overcome barriers to work. Its Kangaroo programme is the first stage in that journey: an assessment and development workshop that helps participants identify their existing skills, areas for development and where they are on their journey towards employment. A grant from the Weavers’ Company supported the delivery and further development of Kangaroo, including revisions to the programme and its workbook.
During the year, three Kangaroo courses were delivered to 17 participants, who continued to receive employability support afterwards. No Going Back also continued working with 29 people who had previously completed the programme. The work funded has helped create a more flexible and streamlined model, including a new workbook that can be used remotely, allowing the programme to reach more people in future. Significantly, two participants have also been identified and supported to become future Kangaroo facilitators – the first time former participants have taken on this role – extending the potential impact of the grant well beyond the original courses.
