The Glasshouse is a social enterprise offering second chances through horticultural training to women based in UK prisons. They harness the power of botanics to make work and living spaces greener, healthier and more inviting. Plants are proven to improve mental and physical wellbeing, increase creativity and concentration and remove toxins from the air.
The Company made a grant to support the running costs of their day-release training programme of women from HMP East Sutton Park. As a result, they:
- employed and trained 10 women from prison during 2024
- 5 women gained Level 2 NVQ qualifications in horticulture
- employed women currently in custody for 4,658 hours
The Glasshouse continues to have a 0% re-offending rate which they attribute to:
– having a clear training and employment programme tailored for each woman
– being able to offer authentic work that is built around plants and their biophilic benefits
– offering a dedicated social impact support worker to look at housing, employment and pastoral needs
